Homonymy Several names exist for this species. The oldest name, Unio tumida J. de C. Sowerby, 1840 is a junior homonym of Unio tumidus Philipsson, 1788. D'Orbigny (1850) introduced Unio subtumidus as replacement name. Unaware of this, Deshayes (1858) introduced Unio cyreniformis and Hislop (1860) erected Unio malcolmsoni. The combination with Parreysia follows Modell (1969). [details]
