Etymology The species is named in honour of Dr Don Hemmes, professor emeritus at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, a mycologist, a dedicated naturalist and assistant at the Botanical Gardens (University of Hawaii at Hilo). He has been part of numerous studies on Hawaiian sea shells and is an avid member of the Hawaiian Malacological Society. [details]
