Spelling Perry (1811) named this species in honour of Mr James Parkinson. Thus, the spelling of the specific epithet should be parkinsoni, not parkinsonia. However, the current (fourth) edition of the ICZN Code is ambiguous on whether or not the original spelling must be corrected in cases such as this. Sassia parkinsonia (Perry, 1811) is in prevailing usage for this New Zealand snail and an emendation would cause instability. [details]
