Nomenclature Dall established Anapella as a replacement name for "Anapa Gray, 1853, non Gray, 1847", and stated the type species to be Anapa triquetra. Gray, 1853 [The Annals and Magazine of Natural History, ser. 2, 11: 44] used Anapa with reference to Gray, 1842 and 1847, gave a description, and placed Anapa smithii Gray, 1853, as the only included species. "Anapa Gray, 1853" is not a separately available name, and Anapella is thus not a replacement name. [details]
