Taxonomy The earlier name Arca patriarchalis (Röding, 1798) has been put forward by Huber (2010: 560) as the valid name to be used for this species. However the name has never been used otherwise as in the catalogue of names by Sherborn (1920) which does not count as an instance of usage under the provisions of ICZN art. 23.9, so that the name fulfills the conditions to be declared “nomen oblitum”.
