Nomenclature Reeve (1849:pl. 6, sp. 25) mentions a close relation to T. bacillum Kiener, 1843 of which it possibly is infra-specific...
Nomenclature Reeve (1849:pl. 6, sp. 25) mentions a close relation to T. bacillum Kiener, 1843 of which it possibly is infra-specific variation. Garrard (1972:326-327) considered it as synonymous to T. terebra (Linnaeus, 1758). Neither opinion can be tested (through protoconch and operculum comparison) by lack of type material. According to Warén (unpublished MS), the type is lost, yet some specimens in NHMUK, General Collection show a strong resemblance to Reeve's figure. Futher research and examination is needed to define the true identity of Reeve's species here discussed. Awaiting such research, Garrard's synonymy is here accepted. [details]
