Stratigraphy The strata of the type localities belong to the Upper Freshwater Molasse (incl. the "silvana beds"), classified into the late early Miocene to early middle Miocene (mammal zone MN 5). In contrast, Peißenberg is usually affiliated with the upper Oligocene Lower Brackish Water Molasse (Wenz 1923), but perhaps the locality "Gutgrieder Graben" (which could not be found on the map) is of Miocene age.
