Nomenclature Swainson originally included in Geomitra a single species, Helix bicarinata G.B. Sowerby I, 1824, but his illustration shows that he had misidentified Helix tiarella, which was fixed as type by Groh et al. under Art. 70.3. Already Pfeiffer (1848, Monographia heliceorum viventium, 2: 543) gave Helix tiarella as type species, but made no statement that this was the correct name for the species illustrated by Swainson as Helix bicarinata Sowerby. [details]
